Sound Design & Composition
Bush Chook
For the 2026 production of Bush Chook as part of The Blue Room Theatre’s Summer Nights, I designed the music and sound effects for the transitions between scenes. My approach was to thread the themes of Australiana and Horror to pervert the classic Australian song Waltzing Matilda for a majority of the transitions. I also manipulated the Christmas hymn Silent Night, Harry Belafonte’s rendition of Mary’s Boy Child, and Australian Crawl’s Errol, which all served to highlight either the themes of Christmas and Australian pop culture. The simplicity of the Waltzing Matilda especially allowed me to shift the tone of each transition with versatility to suit the movement and bridge the previous and upcoming scenes thematically - from light and upbeat, to solemn and somber, to dark and disturbing. Walking With You
Composing for a children’s theatre show was a unique and fun challenge. Composing simple and identifiable musical motifs for each character was my aim for this project. I wanted them to be easily modified for all the silly needs of Twinkletoes and Sockadile’s adventure. I had a blast experimenting with different sounds to help bring this show to life. Here’s a few tunes from this fun shoe-tying tale:
